Aging
20 months used tonneaux + 4 months bottle
Place & Vines
  • Two half-hectare plots in Contrada Feudo di Mezzo at Passopisciaro on Etna's northern slope.
  • The tiny vineyard dates to the late 1800s and sits at approximately 600 metres.
  • Harvest generally begins between late September and early October to protect freshness.
  • The mixed plantings preserve rare local material alongside the two principal Nerello varieties.
Vinification
  • Spontaneous fermentation in open vats with indigenous yeasts.
  • No temperature control during fermentation.
  • The producer works with minimal filtration and avoids racking before bottling.
Aging Style

Twenty months in first- and second-use tonneaux, followed by four months in bottle. Used oak frames the wine's depth and spice while allowing the historic vineyard's fruit and volcanic character to remain central.

Wine Profile

Intense yet transparent ruby. Raspberry and wild blueberry lead into orange, mandarin, marjoram, myrtle, sandalwood and pipe tobacco. Rich and deep without heaviness, with lively tannin and a complex sweet-salty finish.

Key Factors
  • A minute, late-19th-century vineyard in one of north Etna's defining contrade.
  • A traditional mixed-variety composition adds aromatic and structural complexity.
  • Open-vat fermentation and used tonneaux create depth without losing energy.

Why it matters

A rare historic-vineyard Etna Rosso: deep, spicy and Mediterranean, yet transparent and energized by lively tannin and volcanic salinity.
