Place & Vines

Monprivato is a small MGA in Castiglione Falletto but ranks among the most important sites in the entire Barolo denomination. Sordo's 35-year-old vines face south-west between 240 and 320 meters.

Soil & Vineyard

Calcareous soils are composed of blue-grey marine marl of Miocene origin. This fine marl is central to Monprivato's celebrated combination of fragrance, finesse and ageworthy structure. The vineyard is trained on a vertical trellis with traditional Guyot pruning at approximately 4,000 vines per hectare. The published reference yield is 75-80 q/ha.

Vinification

The Nebbiolo is crushed and destemmed, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel. A traditional submerged cap supports a long maceration of four to seven weeks, depending on the vintage, followed by natural malolactic fermentation around 20°C and two to four months in stainless steel.

Élevage

The wine matures for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, then rests for four to six months in stainless steel and a minimum of six months in bottle before release.

Profile

Deep garnet and ruby tones introduce black cherry and delicate floral nuances. The bouquet is rich and persistent, gaining resin and sweet spices over time while maintaining the vineyard's innate elegance.
