Rocche di Castiglione occupies one of Castiglione Falletto's most prized sectors. Sordo's approximately 50-year-old vines face south-east between 320 and 350 meters, combining favorable light with the site's steep, finely structured identity.
Medium-textured soil is loose at the surface and increasingly calcareous. Below lies hard whitish-grey and bluish marl, alternating with dry, compact sandstone from the Langhian stage. The vineyard is trained on a vertical trellis with traditional Guyot pruning at approximately 4,000 vines per hectare. The published reference yield is 68-72 q/ha.
The Nebbiolo is crushed and destemmed, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel. A traditional submerged cap supports a long maceration of four to seven weeks, depending on the vintage, followed by natural malolactic fermentation around 20°C and two to four months in stainless steel.
The wine matures for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, then rests for four to six months in stainless steel and a minimum of six months in bottle before release.
Intense and persistent, with licorice, mint, ripe fruit, resin and sweet spice. The palate is full and structured, with marked acidity and tannin that harmonize through long maturation.
A benchmark Castiglione site where old vines, limestone and marl produce power with remarkable precision.
